It all started with an SMS from Hannah earlier this week, suggesting a gathering @ East Coast Park, after the National Day celebration, on Friday.

Then it all just happened. All made possible by the 100 over SMSes which Hannah ~~said~~ claimed to have sent out.

Yuxuan has returned from Shanghai for his summer break, and appears to have lost a lot of weight. Not as round as I used to remember.

Hannah, Hui Ee, Chen Keat and Shu Xuan still look quite the same, probably because we had lunch together just not too long ago. I am glad they did not disappear after that gathering. It's still nice to see them around.

Shu Xuan brought her cousin, Colene, along too. They do bear some forms of resemblance. Colene lives in Holland and is here on vacation. She speaks Dutch. Anyone wants to learn a third language?

Yong Le, Ian, Aravind and Kenneth are visibly taller now. They are still close friends though they have been seperated for more than seven months. I hope they can remain so for many years to come.

Yuyong was the last to arrive. In fact, late. The first thing he said to me when I called his hp was, "1 min". He showed up in 58 secs. He's taller now, with braces. He still looks irritating. He offered to have himself buried "alive" at the beach, as compensation

I felt really at ease with u guys. We eat, we drink, we talk, we laugh, we cycle. I had fun that day, and hope u did too. Now I look forward to the next gathering.

It's been a great term for me, at least so far, as I feel that my subjects have improved. Here is an outlook of what is my grade for term 3 so far:

English : ---
Chinese : To be confirmed
Maths : A1
IS : A1
Science : A2
IH : ---

I feel that I had tried my best for every subject and feel that if I had studied a little bit more, I would have gotten higher grades i.e Science : 28.5.
I hope that my English Language would get at least an A2 and then my term MSG would improve. Also, I hope that my Humanities would not "let me down" by not getting an A1 again.

E-learning

E-learning for the past 2 days were fun to me. The reason being that e-learning promises to provide a single experience that accommodates the three distinct learning styles of auditory learners, visual learners, and kinesthetic learners. Other unique opportunities created by the advent and development of e-learning are more efficient training of a globally dispersed audience; and reduced publishing and distribution costs as Web-based training becomes a standard.

E-learning also offers individualized instruction, which print media cannot provide, and instructor-led courses allow clumsily and at great cost. In conjunction with assessing needs, e-learning can target specific needs. And by using learning style tests, e-learning can locate and target individual learning preferences.

Fair Fox, full of grief
sailed away from the Boston shore
she wept,oh my!
For hours and hours, oh my!
Weeping!Oh her grief,
It is a leaking faucet
It is like a pouring shower, and her ship begins to sink down.
She is sinking!
But, the wind carries her tears away,
The breeze is cool and relaxing
The Fair Fox is happy
The boat is now afloat,
and her grief gown gone
Oh my!

In this poem, figurative language is used almost every line of the poem. There are a total of five techniques of figurative language

1) Simile: A simile is a comparison that often uses the words like or as. One example of a simile would be to say, "It is like a pouring shower"

2) Metaphor: A metaphor is a comparison made between things which are essentially not alike. It is similar to a simile, but does not use like or as. One example of a metaphor would be to say, "it is a leaking faucet"

3) Personification: When something that is not human is given human-like qualities, this is known as personification. An example of personification would be to say,"wind carries" The wind gained human traits by being able to "carry" the fox's tears.

4) Hyperbole: Exaggerating, often in a humorous way, to make a particular point is known as hyperbole. One of example of hyperbole would be to say, "Weeping!Oh her grief". The writer used this to create an overly grievous emphasis on the fox's grief

5) Symbolism: Symbolism occurs when a noun which has meaning in itself is used to represent something entirely different. One example of symbolism would be to use an image of the American flag to represent patriotism and a love for one’s country.

I like this poem as it is simple to understand but at the same time brings out most of the meanings of figurative language. In this poem, the focus is mainly on the fox's grief ("Weeping!Oh her grief") but the author is able to utilize many types of figurative language in this simple poem. Overall, i learned the different types of figurative language/speech.
